By the end of the course, students will have completed an infographic and be capable of developing products for their organization.

The course will also provide an overview of geographic information systems (GIS), giving the student a basic understanding of what GIS is, the common software related to GIS, and how to use resources available to community groups.  Students will learn how to use different types of data to visually answer questions regarding problems in their community.  In addition, students will learn about Hot-Spot Policing, a method proven effective in reducing all types of crime including substance abuse related crime

Mapping Community Issues and Crime is a two day course that will teach the students how to use free and low cost tools to develop visual products for decision making and information awareness on the first day, then require the students to develop maps and infographics of their own community or jurisdiction on the second day.  The students will be required to share their product and report out at the end of the second day.
